Billy Carr, a native of Austin, Billy became an instant & lifelong KAZI listener in 1982 and has enjoyed its community-focused programming & events ever since. Billy’s interaction with the station first began during his tenure in the field of social work where he created and facilitated youth advocacy programs including area summer events and community leadership opportunities for local teens. While promoting the first successful teen AIDS/HIV education program in the early 90s, he and his teen leaders appeared on the popular KAZI show, “Teen Summit” hosted by the Genius. From the 90’s through the mid-2000s, Billy’s love of KAZI moved from avid listener to “rabid caller” which he (rightly or wrongly) interpreted as skills training in the field of radio. Billy has expertise in the areas of program development, mentorship, as well as sales & marketing. For the past 20+ years, Billy has been a dedicated community banker serving in various capacities from retail service & sales, management, financial literacy, and compliance. Billy has also served on several local boards in various areas including social services, youth advocacy, recreational sports, homeowner’s association, social justice, etc. Ten years ago, he officially joined the award-winning KAZI family, working his way from literal station sweeper to production worker and eventually other roles including midnight/weekend shift filler, “Quiet Storm” host, News Director/Contributor, and Program Committee Member.
